Reasons to be Cheerful about January!

It’s a good thing I take my camera with me where ever I go so I can catch those fleeting moments of loveliness which are standard for British weather in any month of the year.  Today has been gloomy, damp and grim.  Tim has just come home with Higgins with a thick layer of mud on his underside.  That’s the problem with a 4″ inside leg measurement!

However on Monday the day dawned like this…

and ended like this…

…and in the middle was a chilly walk on the beach!

Which was very enjoyable!

I had a really good time at the OutHouse Studio in Aylsham yesterday, teaching a beginners needlefelt course.  I didn’t realise it was the very first course to be run, which made me feel rather honoured.  It was a small group but everyone had lots of fun,(including me) and were very happy to go home with a Cupcake pincushion.  The OutHouse now has a website which you can find here and if you are in Norfolk do keep an eye out for all the other crafts which will be featured over time.  Next month the course is  needlefelt animals, which I promise to show you soon.

And there are Wedding plans!  My younger son is getting married in May and my future daughter in law and I are plotting  flowery country loveliness galore.  Obviously all under wraps for the moment, but if you have any suggestions of  blogs or websites of the crafty country wedding kind, we’d love some tips!

And finally I’d like to share this, the best Facebook status I’ve seen…

“listening to music while sorting out paperwork makes the job worthwhile!!”

I’m sure you’re wondering why, most of us listen to music on a daily basis.   But this was written by my niece, who recently had her cochlear implant switched on…How fantastic is that!

So what are you reasons to be cheerful this week?  Do join in, via the Linky below or in the comments column and spread a little happiness, all over the world!

See you soon xxx

About penny

I live in Norfolk, England in a cottage on the edge of the Norfolk Broads where it can be peaceful and beautiful, or wet and muddy, or occasionally wild and windswept. With me is husband Tim, Henry the elderly and opinionated tabby cat, and Higgins, the miniature dachshund with a massive personality. You’ll find me chattering on about wool and textiles, knitting and crochet, recipes, books and patterns, exhibitions and shopping and of course, the adventures of a small dog! Planet Penny has a Facebook Page, you can find me on UK Handmade and I am featured on Channel4/4Homes Favourite Craft Blog List.

How wonderful that must have been for your niece! Less wonderful for Higgins if he needed a bath. Wilbur, our mini wire dachsie, is similarly vertically challenged and longer coated, he acts as a canine muck collector wherever he goes!

Those are glorious skyscapes Penny, hope you don’t mind a quick plug of Project :: Sky 365 … I think wonderful winter skies and the sharing of them have been my reasons to be cheerful this week.

How fantastic for your niece! What a huge culture shift that must be for her – must have taken some courage to make the decision. Good for her.

And the beach! To have a beach nearby – what a treat. Though to be honest, we have a beach, but it’s in Chicago and takes a while to drive there, in traffic, pay for parking, etc., etc. So I guess I should remember that if I really wanted to, I could also go for a walk on the beach. Yours sounds a lot more accessible.

    Lovely Penny
What stunning beaches you have, such a treat for Higgins I a sure. Such good news about your niece too, amazing what modern technology and medicine can do. Really good and indeed cheerful stuff.

I couldn’t resist adding my cheerful post this week, thank you for the opportunity and for this great way to keep the January Blues at bay xox Hope you are keeping well and if I lived closer I’d be attending one of your workshops for sure. They sound like good fun xox

Ooops sorry something went wrong with the first attempt to add a photo for my first attempt to link up, not sure if you can delete this one? sorry!

Such great reasons to be cheerful you have this week :-). And beautiful pictures! Can’t help with the wedding stuff as my own wedding was very minimal (in that it was as small and low-key as we could manage!), but have fun with it! More fun when it’s somebody else’s I imagine :-D.

Beautiful sunrise and sunset! And I love the photo of Higgins on the beach. Those can’t all be his pawprints, can they? Some of them look very large.

Your class sounds like great fun. If I lived a bit closer I’d sign up like a shot.

How exciting to have wedding plans in the family, and a cochlear implant for your niece. Those are very Cheerful things indeed.

What wonderful reasons to be cheerful. It’s so funny you mention wedding plans as just today I was browsing pinterest (as you do) and came across these http://pinterest.com/pin/167407311118428671/ not sure if they are country but definitely crafty and I just love them. I just can’t decide what colour though we have no date set yet so I guess I have a while to decide. hehe 🙂

How lovely for your niece that’s amazing!

Love the skies (again!) I’ve really felt the cold this week, and felt the need for som real warmth …..you know acrylic jumpers etc… What’s that all about?!

Higgins looks very happy on the beach, I can’t wait to take our pup, not long now mind, but we need to figure out lead walking first!

Wish they did some decent crafty courses around here.
    Have a happy week!
