Monthly Archives: February 2012

Celebrating February…

…and this year with an extra day!  I hope you are all enjoying your ‘Leap day’  and the sun is shining.  I’ve just been sorting through the February images, it’s gone very quickly, but so much has happened!

Thank you all for all the comments and encouragement,  I do love to hear from you all, and have had quite a few chats via the contacts box!

As well as everything else next month I am planning to pick up my felting needles again as Open Studios is on the horizon, and I have several ideas buzzing round my head for that, and of course things will be gathering speed in the garden… oh for an extra 12 hours in the day!

So for now I’ll leave you with the February Mosaic…

…and I’ll be back soon …x

Hooray for Crochet Rainbow Mice!

I’ve set myself a challenge, to see just how many projects I can get out of the cotton rainbow pack, at one ball of each colour.   It’s so easy, when you go to a shop where everything is readily available, to buy a ball in every colour you need (finances permitting, of course!) make the project and pop the leftovers in a bag for ‘Ron’ (as in later-R-on).  When I started dyeing my own colours my attitude changed, I was going to use every scrap of Bluefaced Leicester 4 ply I had so painstakingly coloured myself, so it’s still in use, as in the needlefelted pincushion from this post, and the Sophie Digard inspired scarf from this post.

I’m not personally a fan of a vast majority of the amigurumi figures which are very popular, a lot of them are just too cartoonlike for my taste, but there’s no denying they are a perfect project for small amounts of left overs, and a perfect size for little hands to hold.  I’ve found this book very useful…

Nikki Trench’s patterns are well written, and the How-to section of the book very useful for beginners, and had just the pattern for what was in the back of my mind…

I’ve had LOTS of fun in my spare moments over last week…

Want to see?

I’ve adjusted the pattern a little, I’ve made the ears bigger than the pattern, and used beads for the features as I haven’t made them for a small child…

I have no idea what I’m going to do with my little rainbow of mice, but I love them!

By now, some of you will have received your Planet Penny Cotton Club packs, and I’m getting lots of excited feed back which is great.  I can’t wait to see your creations!  As I write I just have one pack left, but another order is in the pipeline so I’m happy for you to leave me a message if you are interested.  Then I’ll let everyone know when it arrives so they can have the first chance to buy a pack before I put it on line.

I will have to adjust the price slightly.  I thought when I started this a hidden cost might creep up and bite me in the bottom, and it did! It won’t be a huge amount, but I obviously have to cover all the admin charges.  I’m currently doing a test run to see whether posting to  the US and Europe is feasible too as I’ve had lots of enquiries.  I’ll let you know as I go along, but in the meantime the contacts tab is there for you if you have any queries, and the comments box too too.

I’m linking up to Handmade Monday again this week, hosted by the talented Wendy on 1st Unique Gifts.  Do visit and find out what everyone else has been up to over the last few days…

I’ll be back soon …xx

My Planet Penny Facebook Face

I’ve had a Facebook Page for Planet Penny for a while now, and very slowly the ‘likes’ have mounted up.  It’s been very long winded, so when I reached the magic 200 I had a ‘giveaway’, and one lucky person has just won a needlefelt pin cushion in a little drawstring bag.

( I think I need to make more of an effort with Facebook, so if you’ve got any tips I’d love to hear about them, and if you want to ‘like’ me, I need all the friends I can get! ) But for now I’m heading off towards 300, and then I’ll do the ‘giveaway’ thing all over again!

Anyway, having a little gift to parcel up made my own surprise package in the post very useful indeed.  I have recently been awarded Fave Blog Status by the Dotcomgiftshop which is quite an honour in itself, and I was also sent a selection of gift ribbons from their Mothers day gifts range as a present.

Perfect timing!

And hugely useful to me as not only is Mother’s Day fast approaching, but my mum actually has a birthday at the beginning of March, as does my son, my niece and most of ‘Rabbit’s friends and relations’!

so I’m very well stocked for all the gift wrapping, all I have to do is make the pressies!
