Autumn Walks and Weather

It’s the start of a new week, and a review of the past few day here in blog land.  We’ve been very lucky weather-wise in Norfolk so far this Autumn.  I’ve watched the  forecasts and seen just how much wet, windy and stormy weather has been hurtling around the UK, and we’ve got off very lightly.  There are positives to being on a bump sticking out into the North Sea, our own micro-climate!  It’s a bit nippy though, the fire’s been lit the past few evenings, and I’ve been glad of my wristwarmers whilst sitting at the computer in my new little office! Despite the fact it’s warmer in the house, my faithful companions have chosen to be out in the studio with me, just keeping an eye…

…you just never know when I might suddenly decide to open a packet of pet treats and eat them all myself!

Last week’s needlefelt Robins have come home to roost on wreaths and hearts…

I haven’t put them on Etsy though as I’m having a slightly panicky moment about filling a craft stall at the end of the month.  It’s a real juggling act knowing where to place things when the things you sell are all individually made.  Can you see my lovely second hand find in the photo, by the way?  A metal and wicker corner shelf unit, perfect for displaying little lovelies at craft fairs and in photos.  Since my visit to the DIY Oxfam shop in Camden last month, and meeting the Buttonbag ladies I’ve revived my love of poking about in Charity shops.  I’ve tried to limit my visits to just donating, and not accumulating more ‘stuff’ , but old habits are hard to break!  (There’s a blog post in the offing about my other purchases, so watch this space!)

Higgins and I have been making the most of the dry weather while it lasts with some doggy walks.  I really ought to be spending some of that time gardening, but Higgins can only think of one reason why I should be in the garden, and that involves a ball, not a trowel!  Still, it gives me a chance to appreciate the Autumn colours and spectacular Norfolk skies…

and there are rose hips galore…

…and this weeks mystery object growing on the wild roses!  I can’t for the life of me remember what this is…can you?

Well, ironically, since I started writing this post the heavens have opened!  The rain is hammering on the skylight, I can’t hear Gardener’s Question Time, or myself think, so I’m going to call a halt and go inside to the fire and my crochet patchwork.  I’ll leave you with a link to Handmade Monday over on Handmade Harbour and I’ll be back soon…x

The weather has been mixed down here but like you make the most of the sun and ry for dog walking. Love those little bird wreaths

The hearts are really lovely and your pics are great, especially the one of the field poppy. I know what you mean about making for more than one spot – so hard to decide which one gets priority because you want a varied amount of items for everywhere. Hope you have a good week.

gorgeous pictures Penny! there are tonnes of berries around this year aren’t there… that’s supposed to mean a cold winter ahead i think… gulp…!

your furry companions look so cute in their cosy beds, they like to be with the rest of the pack don’t they 🙂

i love the way you’ve displayed the robins which look super pretty on their little perches! x

I love autumn and a sunny day has to be made the most of before all the damp of winter arrives so I don’t blame you for getting out walking 🙂

Your pics of autumn colours are lovely, I like getting out and appreciating the colours too. With Higgins you have the perfect reason as well. The decs are gorgeous – I know what you mean about wondering what to place where – I’ve got some of my makes in a local library and I really missed them at the event I did on Saturday

Hello Penny- weather good here today too, but the first hard frost to start the the day!The odd thing in your photo is a Rose Burr- an abnormal growth on a rose caused by a virus infection-possibly some sort of mosaic virus.

Your robins look gorgeous on the wreaths. I especially like the heart one. Hope your craft fair goes well. I love the photos with Higgins and the feather. He’s so sweet.

Beautiful photos, I love the countryside at this time of year. I must get on the common with my camera if we get some decent weather (although looking at the forecast I fear we may be blown away this week).
The robins are delightful. They sit perfectly on those twiggy wreaths.

We had our first frost this morning, then it was lovely and sunny this afternoon, then an enormous black rain cloud on one side of the sky, and bright bright sun on the other- and my daughter was absolutely delighted when she spotted an enormous full arching rainbow!

    Hi Penny

Those odd growths on the wild roses have been here, in my part of France, for at least 5 years. I can’t find any reference to them as rose burr, but I feel sure they must be a virus of some kind.

Love you little wreaths with robins!!
The out and about pics are wonderful too, Higgins sure enjoyed that feather lol. It is spring here but raining and cold….

Higgins looks so glamourous in his fur-lined bed. 🙂

Love the wreaths, especially the one with two robins nestling. And gorgeous poppy and rose hips and berries! Have a great week.

They look so cosy all snuggled up. It certainly was brrr this morning when we did the school jig at 7.30. Alfie isn’t impressed with going out in the dark and rain for his walk first.

Have a great and industrious week Penny. Really do still want to meet up maybe after half term if you’re free. My days off seem to be taken up with plumbers trying to get up heat at hot water at the moment.

I just love your robins. As for the weather…well, I’m still waiting for summer. Not so much optimistic as totally deluded, I know.

Great photo’s Penny, I agree about the weather, it not been too bad up to now, fingers crossed x
I’ve still got 2 weekends left in the Pumpkin Patch in Suffolk so I’m hoping there’s not going to be much rain ahead.
I enjoy charity shops too, I love a good find.

We’re all mud and muddy whippet paws here, and as my two little dachsies have rough coats they are coming home with muddy tummies. Higgins on the other hand is looking very dapper there.

    Lovely images Penny 🙂

It is amazing what you can find at this time of year. Your photo’s are great. I know I read about your appearance in a magazine but I still got a little thrill when I saw you in it for real. Well done 🙂
