Did you go on Nature walks when you were at Primary School? I can remember being marched along the pavement in a crocodile, hand in hand with my best friend, collect leaves and nuts for the Nature table. All my memories seem to be Autumnal, I’m sure we went at other times too.
Higgins and I went for a walk yesterday which turned into a nature walk, although I did all my collecting with the camera. I’ve just been turning them into a mosaic and I liked it so much I though I’d share it with you…
It’s amazing just how much there is to see in quite a small area of countryside.
And the Ta-Daaa? Well, I’ve finished the Boneyard Shawl, which I wrote about here (and that’s despite making all those pompoms!)
I really love the colours…
and it’s lovely and soft and snuggly…
I used 4 balls in the end so it’s quite a good size…
Although I don’t what it was with the shaping, it must be me…it looks a little like a sting ray!
One of the compensations of the end of the summer is going to be having an excuse to get all wrapped up in knitting!
Well, the prickling of the hairs on the back of my neck tell me…just let me have a peek… yes, as I thought, I am getting a HARD STARE…it’s walkies time again.
I’d better get the lead …

I remember there being a nature table at school too, such a lovely idea x
The shawl is great, the colours are wonderful!
I remember we were always begging to go out on nature walks at primary school but couldn’t go very often. When we did go mostly we found heather and sheep bones :-D.
Your shawl looks lovely – I knitted a Boneyard too, in Rowan Tapestry which give a similar soothing stripey effect. I’ve worn mine loads – in fact I’ve never got round to blocking it because it was winter when I finished it and I couldn’t wait to wear it!
beautiful photos! I love the blackberries the most,
and wow, the shawl turned out beautifully! Love the colour variegation, it’s perfect! Not long until it is nice and chilly for you lot up there! (she says wistfully, awaiting the polar blast due to hit today, gulp)
Have an ace weekend XXXXX
Oh Penny, your boneyard shawl looks gorgeous and so cosy ad snug. Love te colour’s too. It’s one of my favourite knits and turns our beautiful despite mine looking like a stingray when I blocked mine too ;0)
Love the idea of a nature table, I saw the idea in country living mag maybe a year or 2 ago and have always encouraged Alice to make one. I think, if the weather is fine next week we will be making one on the camp site xox hugs for Higgins x
Beautiful shawl, love the autumnal colours – can’t believe we are almost half way through August – who stole the year?
Lovely mosaic, hope Higgins enjoyed his walk.

Your mosaics are lovely, I like the little acorns the best, we don’t get them here 🙁 Your Boneyard shawl is great, it looks so snuggly. I am STILL knitting my Daybreak….so many stithes by the end it takes ages to do one row!!
The shawl is beautiful – love the pattern. It does look like a sting ray. 🙂 What a wonderful photo, in your mosaic, of Higgins trotting down the path!
Hi Penny! That shawl is so beautiful! I love those colours so much and also you have found same colours to that amzing photo mosaic!
Have a great week!
xxx Teje
I remember the Nature table too though I don’t recall ever going on a walk from school. I still pick things up if they take my fancy and put them on my chest of drawers. At the moment I have feathers and lichens.
How is Henry doing?
