Hello, and thank you for the lovely comments on my previous posts. It’s great to be back, and I’m gradually beginning to get back into the blogging mindset. Photograph everything… write notes… get out of the house and do stuff!
But today I discover it is also Socktober! Why have I never heard of this before? I found out it began as a charity in the US which I think is a wonderful idea. This year I’m going to use it as a reminder to knit more socks. The chaps in our family always seem to appreciate hand knitted socks, the madder the colour scheme the better. I can’t walk past a wool shop or scroll past a woolly website without finding something else to add to my sock yarn stash so I really need to work my way through a few balls.
I’m currently at the point of turning the heel on this first pair of Silly Socks:
But the ones I really love are these, where I get to use the odds and ends of all the socks I’ve ever knitted to make some which are always completely unique.
I’ve been hunting round to find other bloggers taking part in Blogtober and found the lovely Louise Tilbrook who is also a Socktober fan. Her blog is here and you’ll some find super free patterns and autumn knits along with the socks.
If you are a fellow Blogtoberer (can that be a word? it is now!) do stop by and leave a link. And if you just want to say hi, please do. The world out there is pretty grim and us crafty people need to stick together in our cosy little world.
Hugs…and see you soon…x
Dear Penny, I am so glad that you and Higgins are back. I’m not sure if you remember me or not..I had the wiener dog, Sophie here in the US. that was the (almost) twin of Higgins. She and her sister Tilly..my red wiener dog are no longer with us..except in my heart.
Anyway, I love, love, love your knitted masterpieces..especially these beautiful socks. I have never knitted anything in my life..I tried but it was hopeless. 🙂 I know you don’t have an Etsy shop anymore but would you consider selling me a pr. of those cozy socks? I’m not sure if the shipping would be outrageous and if so, I still want you to know how gorgeous your socks are…
Happy Socktober and Welcome back…Chris
Penny so loving seeing you doing this. I am very stalled with my blog but just did a 3mth trip around Oz must be blogged out lol BUT happy to enjoy yours ??
Hi Penny lovely to see you back. Good luck with Socktober! I always mean to join in but have so many WIPs, I can’t add another!
I have them too! My mother always referred to them as unfinished symphonies!
Oh wow! I think you just need to rest up and read blogs for now!
Oh yes, I do remember you of course. I’m so sorry to here that Sophie and Tilly are no longer with you. Thank you for your kind comments about the socks. I’m afraid that it’s impossible to put a price on them because they take hours to make which is why I don’t make them to sell. I’m sorry to disappoint you.
Oh, that’s ok Penny, I totally understand..It’s hard to put a price on a priceless object. 🙂 They are really quite beautiful though..Thank-you for taking the time to reply. How old is Higgins now and how bout a photo or two of that darling baby granddaughter you have..Who, I’m sure is no longer a baby…
I have six grandchildren now! The eldest is 18 and towers over me and the youngest is 23 months. All adorable of course, four boys and two girls. Higgins, bless him, is 13 now, and quite deaf but still full of beans and getting bossier as he gets older!
I am always delighted to find more sock knitters – the world always needs hand knitted socks – and your socks are lovely. You can’t go wrong with self-striping yarn, I don’t think! 🙂 xx
The trouble is I can always find yet another ball of pretty colours which I just HAVE to buy!
Oh, how wonderful to have all those grandchildren..Do they wear your beautiful knitted creations? Pics please! 🙂 And bless that little Higgins!
