Hello, and Happy Monday! And it’s Handmade Monday too, so lots of lovely links on the Ist Uniques Gifts blog to follow to see what other crafty things are going on.
I’ve just about recovered from our long day on Friday, which ended up with a Chinese takeaway at 9pm! I’m so glad we had a nice coach driver to get us there and back too, or I might have been found still in the hall on packing up day, asleep round the back of a stall on a pile of wool…
So much to see at the Knitting and Stitching Show, I did try to focus on the knitting, crochet and yarn, and not be distracted by embroidery, cross-stitch, dyeing, machining, fabrics, jewellery and…and…!
It was actually quite hard to photograph. Not everyone was happy with photos being taken, and a lot of the time it was hard to get past the crowds, but here is a flavour…
The venue, Alexandra Palace, has an interesting history and a wonderful view of London…
…I think this might give Higgins a fright!
I found Sasha Kagan and a blast from the past, I remember my mother knitting this one in the eighties…
I could have spent a fortune, so many beautiful yarns, but at least I could gather up cards for contacts and websites so I can browse online. I was very happy to find this company…
because they have a fabulous shade card…
It was lovely to find Sarah at Blooming Felt, I did spend a bit there ….umm…
There were big jars full of little felt balls like a sweetie shop, SO pretty!
Fell for these gorgeous buttons…
…and some bobbly blue yarn..
…and then I found something completely different, but it was just my colours…
I know. You’re looking and thinking, but there’s black, and orange, those aren’t Planet Penny colours.
But look…
…and now I have a rainbow ball to hang from the ceiling to add a little happiness to the forth coming winter gloom…
So after that paper folding episode, I’d better get back to business, and my crochet rainbow…
Tonight’s the night for the Naming of the Cow, and the draw so do call back in a couple of days and find out what went on!
See you then x
OOOO! Ahhhhhh! I think you must have been in Heaven! Seriously in love with your rainbow of crocheting too and the happy paper ball! Thank you for the tour. Almost as good as being there. Almost. 🙂
I’ve really enjoyed this post… living far from London it’s lovely to see the event! Your Japanese paper folding is lovely as is your crochet rainbow 🙂
Oh, thank you so much for this post – a fabulous tour (I really enjoyed it) and without the aching feet!
Love your folded rainbow x
Marvellous post Penny, so full of colour, like your Japanese ball. The Shetland wool shade card took me back twenty years to when I used to spend all day doing things with wool and other yarns. Sigh.
Ooh ooh, those kusudama balls (spelled correctly?0 are STUNNING! I think I might have to have a go. Off to find an online outlet!
lovely Penny, so much colourful goodness! I imagine I would have spent a fortune, oh my goodness!
Ooh I so loved the Japanese stand… was really amused that they even had a kit for Kanzashi flowers! What did you think of the MODA exhibition, I thought it was fantastic but that is because I am just so awful at art, but I think it was because those ladies were brilliant… and what about the ecclesiastical gold work, just stunning!
Whilst I’m very jealous that you went (and I didn’t), I do feel you have at least given me a bit of a taste of it. Fab fun with the lampshade!
The jars of felt balls at Blooming Felt were the bees knees.Good to see the range of colours in the flesh.
WOW… WoW….. and Wow again, what great photo’s and what stunning colours, I love……. everything.
Even the sky is a fantastic shade of blue. It looks and sounds like you had a brilliant time.

I love the folded paper ball. How clever is that? And your colourful crochet looks fab, too. :o)
I so enjoyed your photos! This was hands down the most colorful blog of the day, I feel like I OD’d on eye candy! LOVED it. 🙂
Hello! I found your blog via your comment on Craft Blog UK’s Facebook page. I really love your photos of the show both inside and out, so bright and colourful. Gives us a real taste even if you didn’t allow yourself to be distracted by the stitching 😉
I was salivating and getting all giddy just looking at all that yarn lovliness Penny. Each year I promise myself I’ll go and then miss the date, one year maybe.
Your paper folding ball is wonderful (can’t remember its name). You were obviously keen to get home and start playing.

That rainbow ball is fabulous Penny, what a wonderful creation, like a ball of rainbow colours! When I first started reading this post I felt a bit of pain that I couldn’t have been at Ally Pally too!!!!!! So it’s wonderful to see your photos and be there that way. The wall of Jamiesons is divine isn’t it? I have to breath deeply when I look at that. I’m so, so pleased the cards arrived safely and that you’re very happy with them, thank you Penny, and thank you for letting me know, that’s so nice of you. Love the photo of you all on the coach looking at the rainbow, it was the beginning of a magic day which started with the rainbow I imagine! Love Vanessa xxx
Penny, some of these photos are just wonderful in their glorious colourfulness! You should make them into Christmas cards, post-cards … or something!
I am going to the knitting and stitching show in Harrogate at the end of November. Seeing your photos has made me even more excited than I was already! I will definitely need to save my pennies!! :o) x
Woah – colour/choice overload! You could spend days and days browsing and wowsing at that lot.
Love the paper/flower ball.
I loved all the photos, I would have been drooling at that venue with all that lovely eye candy. Love the rainbow ball, very clever 🙂
I would have just loved it! (and of course bought as much as I could carry!) The ball is lovely too. (Looking forward to the naming of the cow) Mich x
Wow! That all looks amazing! I’m exhausted just looking at it all from my sofa!
Hi Penny! That show must have been amazing! I think it is just good I don’t have any show here; how you can see all those lovely things and goodies and try to decide what you can get?! But surely you get a lot of inspiration!!! I love all your photos and that paper rainbow ball is beautiful!
Hugs for you and Higgins!
