Making Winter

With all my moaning and groaning about the approaching Winter I was really happy to find another excellent way to combat the glooms over on Silverpebble‘s Blog.  Emma feels just like me about winter and has obviously been running through the same thought processes about making it more enjoyable.  It’s a good way too for all you Autumn/Winter lovers to share the things you love about the season, and lovely warming recipes and seasonal crafts and makes.

So that has got me revisiting a favourite recipe from a favourite chef…

..and make yummy Leek and Potato Soup.  Follow the link for my version of the recipe, Nigel Slater has a great way of guiding you rather than being strict about quantities, which is what I love about this cookery book.

We have a special visitor for lunch tomorrow, so this soup, with some local Pesto bread and Goat’s cheese will be delicious, I can hardly wait!

So do visit Silverpebble where you’ll find links for all the other participants…

…and don’t forget to come back here tomorrow to join in with…

Between us we’ll beat the Winter Blues!

A Wave in Passing…

…to Handmade Monday!  I shouldn’t really be here…I’m packing….. but I just had to fit in a quick post before we take off for a few days at the seaside.

I do seem to have packed quite a lot of little projects to take with me, you know, just in case.  It would be terrible to have idle hands!

So, there are the birthday socks to finish…

…a few more squares to add to the blanket…

…and if I need a change,  something warm and snuggly to made from this, I haven’t decided quite what yet…

as well as a couple of books, my camera, notebook….

I’ve just time to share the birthday cake, (well, pictures of it, that’s all that’s left!) which I made for a friend’s birthday party over the weekend.  An extremely clever friend who built his own car….

…like this…

When I come home I will share the recipe of this, the most chocolatey chocolate cake in the world…it’s called Clovis cake!

All will be explained…..

So do pop along to Handmade Monday 31 to see who else is joining in.  Sorry to be so brief, Higgins and I will be back soon with tales of holiday fun….

Byeeee! xx

Fooood!

Had to slip a quick post in before heading off for the weekend, and to say thank you for all the lovely comments you have been leaving.  They do mean a lot.

I made an exciting trip into Norwich today.  Exciting just because it’s nearly six weeks since I last went, so caught up in the busy-ness of the last few weeks as I’ve been.  Mainly it was for a trip to see Jon, my lovely hairdresser for a tidy-up, (although alas, gettting caught in the rain meant that the nice ‘blow dry’ was a blow wet by the time I got home) but it did require a trip to the Cherryleaf for a restorative coffee and fresh scone.

I now have the yarn required to do the last row on all my crochet circles to turn them into squares so I have a little portable project to pop in the car…

And I got the latest copy of Making Magazine to excite a little more inspiration…

On the way back to the car I popped into wholesome in Swan Lane to find a little something to take home for lunch, and was really excited to find Bray’s Cottage pork pies which everyone seems to be talking about and I was desperate to try.

The left hand one? Chorizo, and the other has  Onion Marmalade….Deeelicious!

Followed by….

Dr Tim Kinnaird’s wonderful Macaroons….

Salted Caramel, and Lemon….

I had to share of course…

I’ll know better next time!

So now I’m heading off to finish packing.  I have a batch of Biscotti finishing off in the oven as I type, ready to take along for leisurely elevenses over the weekend, and I need to sort everything a small dog needs for a weekend at the seaside…

He’s very excited!
