That Strange Time of Year…

Hello! Do you feel as disorientated as I do? It’s hard to define that image in your head of the shape of the year, the internal clock or calendar I suppose. There are weeks and months and days of the week, but somehow Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day are completely separate. Drop them into the mix and I for one have no idea where I am!

We had a wonderful Christmas, I hope you did too, and haven’t been badly affected by the storms and flooding, either in your home or while travelling. Both days we were on the road were pretty tricky, but Christmas Day on the South coast was glorious, if a little windy…

Once I get over the hiatus of this strange time of year I have lots of Planet Penny plans and things to do but in the meantime the shop has reopened for the sale of yarn, and at long last I can announce the arrival of Snowdrop yarn, a perfect foil for the bright rainbow colours of the PPCC colours and available in packs of 5 or 10 balls…

Norfolk November Skies and a Rosy Glow…

Hello! I can’t believe it’s taken so long to get back here for a catch up. I must say the new look for the blog is really growing on me now, and it seems to sit much better on a phone or tablet.

Last weekend Two Rivers Trail Christmas Fair was AMAZING! We couldn’t believe how many people came, there were cars parked all over the village, with people having to walk for half a mile to get to us! The Planet Penny Stall looked like this…

..although I don’t think many people managed to stand back to have a look at anything! If you would like to see more, all the photos I took of the day are over on the Two Rivers Trail website where you can see some of the beautiful things from other members of the Trail.

I actually thought I would have a quiet week catching up with things, but it’s been anything but, and so busy I’ve struggled to find time to even get out for a walk with poor little Higgins…

He’s not impressed!

So in the spirit of a breath of fresh air, here’s yesterday’s walk which took place when the sun came out after a miserable gloomy start, and the wonderful Norfolk November skies came into their own.

You don’t get long after lunch for walk at this time of the year, do you? It does mean being treated to a wonderful view of the sunset as we head back home. Note the mud! Glorious isn’t it?

And talking of a ‘Rosy Glow’ I’m going into boastful mother mode again, Last night elder son Thomas won a second award for one of his children’s books, The Pets you Get at the Brilliant Book Awards! Proud? You bet I am!

Adrian Reynolds, the illustrator, you may well have met before with the Harry and the Dinosaurs stories, which have been made into a popular TV series.

Since I often turn up here with a book review I have no compunction at all in recommending ‘The Pets you Get’ as an excellent buy for Christmas!

And now, I have a ‘cunning plan’ for December on the blog so I’m off to see if I can make it work! And it’s December tomorrow so I better get going…

Feeling Sheepish…

Feeling sheepish, and a lot else besides! What’s the last thing you want to do when you are up to your eyes getting ready for a Craft Fair…Tommorrow!

Well, probably making major changes to your blog, ones you’ve been dithering about for months and had lined up for a quiet time in the New Year would be high on the list!

However, someone, somewhere had other ideas, and as I was shutting things down last night I found that all the strings which held Planet Penny together had snapped, and all the content was dangling around any old how in cyber space.

So, after a sleepless night, I have dived in and done a refit. There’s a new theme. I feel a bit like I’ve redecorated and changed all the furniture around!

I’m off now to drink a large cup of coffee and attack the enormous Chocolate Chip Cookie which Tim has just brought home from the shop to give me enough energy to tackle all the remaining printing and pricing left to do for tomorrow.

Perfecting the Art of Procrastination…

…or indecisiveness…

Which is it? I can’t make up my mind!

So here’s the problem. I have done quite a few things over the past few weeks, have LOADS of photos and I’ve spent a lot of time over the past few days being completely unable to write a blog post about anything because there’s TOO MUCH STUFF…

Which means I either never write another post, or I just metaphorically throw everything in the air, grab some bits here and there and see what happens.

We went to the Knitting and Stitching show a couple of weeks ago. So much to see, and some amazing exhibitions. I hope to follow up on some of the interesting stalls at a later date but in the meantime, well, I did treat myself. Last time I went, a couple of years ago I fell in love with the wonderful Throw kits on the Colinette stand but there was such a huge choice I just couldn’t make up my mind, and have been kicking myself ever since. I don’t know when I’m going to get time to make it, but this time I did buy one at the special show price I wish you could feel how wonderfully soft and warm the yarn is, and the colours are fabulous…

My other great buy was a pinnie from Alison Hulme Textiles…

Hand printed by Alison on denim, it’s almost a dress! It’s a good extra layer, will fit over a woolly jumper and has two big deep pockets so it’s a perfect work uniform for me when I’m in the studio.

And then I went off to the seaside…

Just a few days on the South Coast and it was lovely. There was lots of weather…

Bright and breezy…

Wild and windy…

Rainy…

…and peaceful.

A teachers strike meant I had a precious day with my grandsons, a trip to the Observatory Science Centre which I enjoyed as much as they did! I was allowed to have ago on all the scientific apparatus and no one told me I was too tall, or old to join in, and a tour of one of the telescopes. A great way to entertain a granny!

Now I’m home I’m gradually unpacking all the things put away to make way for the decorator and seeing them in a fresh light. It’s so easy to stop actually ‘seeing’ things, isn’t it. when you’ve had them a long time in the same place. I’ve got shelves in a redundant fireplace which is ideal for china and other small and fragile pieces. It spent several years with a perspex sheet screwed to the front when the boys were small, so with another little one coming along in the New Year, I need to make the most of it before we have to replace the perspex!

It’s all been a bit slow on the making front, alas. I’ve been suffering from RSI in my elbow and operating the mouse and the crochet hook seems to be the culprit, which is so frustrating. I really want to write a pattern for the Christmas balls I’ve been making with the Planet Penny Cotton which requires lots of crochet experiments and ‘mouse work’ for the photos, and rest is really the only answer for RSI.

I’ve been good though and have only done a bit here and a bit there so I hope it won’t be too long before I’m back up to speed.

Getting my rainbow colour fix is always good for the spirits!

Well, I have both Henry and Higgins telling me it’s teatime and although they are an hour too early I won’t get much peace right now!

Back in the Driving Seat…

I wish I could say I drove home in this fabulous yarnbombed taxi, but I had to leave it at Alexandra Palace and the Knitting and Stitching Show.

Anyway, this is just to say I’m back, the shop has reopened for business and I’ll be along with a proper blog post very soon…

The Great Escape!

Hello… It seems AGES since I was here! I keep thinking I’ve got things sussed and then it all goes pear shaped again. I’m still getting kind messages hoping I’m feeling better, and I am, thank you so much. But it’s always the way, just as you think you ought to escape and lift your foot off the pedal several things happen all at once. So much for pacing myself!

Firstly, we’ve been decorating.

I’ve still got most of the contents of downstairs, upstairs but at least the dust sheets have gone. Fortunately it was while the weather was still warm so we could have the doors open and Higgins was happy to have his bed out in the garden during the day. Henry, however, was determined to sleep where he always sleeps come what may… Did you spot him?

I now find I am on the committee of our Village Community shop (not quite sure how that happened but there are some smooth talkers in our village!) doing window display, website and social media stuff. We got off to a good start with a recipe card scheme for the shop. I devised a Croissant Bread and Butter Pudding recipe which is delicious (though I say it myself!) nothing like those dreadful B & B puds we used to be served at school. It’s not exactly helping my healthy eating regime though…

Our Open Studios Two Rivers Trail group has decided to get together for a Christmas Fair and Art Exhibition next month so organisation is gathering pace. You can find out all about it on the Two Rivers Trail website. Do go and look at the artists work on the website, there are some beautiful things and a real variety.

This will be the only fair I go to as Planet Penny for the forseeable future, so if you are in the area it would be lovely to see you. I’ve started making a few things but I’m afraid creativity time has been limited lately. I’m quite excited about my crochet Christmas baubles though…

… and look forward to adding new colour combinations. No two alike as usual!

Tomorrow I’m off with my chum Kit for a day out. We’re off to Alexander Palace and the Knitting and Stitching Show which I’m really looking forward to. It’s a long day but it will be worth it.

And then, I’m running away! Look,I even have a running away App on my phone!

I’m leaving Tim to look after Higgins and Henry – or possibly the other way round? packing my bag and and heading off to spend some time with two of my favourite little boys. I’m not taking the laptop, and although I shall have my phone I am determined not to look at it more than twice a day. What I thought would be fun though would be to make use of Instagram to keep a picture diary of my holiday, so if you want to keep up to date you can follow my escapades right here!

Obviously the Etsy shop will be closed until 18th October when I get back, but I hope to be bright eyed and bushy tailed after my little break.
