Reasons to be Cheerful…

Having announced a cunning plan, I’m really nervous about telling you!  I really hope you like it…

As an insomniac, quite a lot of strange things run through my head in the wee small hours when I’d actually much rather be asleep!  And I often doze off and wake up with tunes running through my head which won’t shut up.  Last night it was this…Do you remember it?

Ok, so maybe not to everyone’s taste (though you’ve got to love that sax!) but the sentiment is just right.

We neeeeed reasons to be cheerful sometimes, especially now.  In the Northern Hemisphere, winter is approaching.  The nights are drawing in rapidly, it’s cold and very often grey.  The TV news is full of doom and sadness, the boiler packs up, the toddler grinds his lunch into the curtains, you get the picture, I don’t need to go on.

So I thought it would be fun have some Reasons to be Cheerful, and share them around, so we can all have a little uplifting when we most need it.

So here’s the plan.  Every week I’ll put a Linky, here on Planet Penny so you can link your blog post where you’ve included your 3 reasons to be cheerful…as the song says 1,2,3.  It can be photos, or a saying, or even a little story about what has made you smile over the past few days, or a mix of all three.  I don’t want to lay down too many rules, lets see what develops, but obviously nothing offensive, or that contravenes copyright laws, I’m sure I don’t really need to say it!

Don’t forget to put a link back to Planet Penny in your post to bring people back to the Linky so everyone can join in the fun!

So, what has made me happy this week?

Well, for One there is…

Late October Roses

Two…

My Happy Place!

And Three?  Well, it’s just got to be ….!

My noisy little friend!

So please join in and take note of those little moments in your week which make you smile and share them with the world.  If you don’t have a blog, don’t worry just pop  them in the comments!

And now here’s the Linky…

Thanks so much for joining in!

One more day to add your link for this week, but don’t worry, I’ll be doing it again!

About penny

I live in Norfolk, England in a cottage on the edge of the Norfolk Broads where it can be peaceful and beautiful, or wet and muddy, or occasionally wild and windswept. With me is husband Tim, Henry the elderly and opinionated tabby cat, and Higgins, the miniature dachshund with a massive personality. You’ll find me chattering on about wool and textiles, knitting and crochet, recipes, books and patterns, exhibitions and shopping and of course, the adventures of a small dog! Planet Penny has a Facebook Page, you can find me on UK Handmade and I am featured on Channel4/4Homes Favourite Craft Blog List.

I don’t have a blog so will leave my three here…..

    1. New foot for my sewing machine (for adjustable bias binding)
    2. Hot chocolate – it’s actually cold and foggy here this morning.
    3. A nap – I may have woken up unreasonably early but since I don’t have to work today I can go curl up with a good book and possibly drift off for forty winks…..

    Reasons to be cheerful?

Part 1…. My little cats always make me happy whenever I think of them. Whenever people let you down or get you down, they never will. They are always a cosy comfort, funny and totally lovable no matter what. Great to be at home with and to come home to.
2….Today is a lovely sunshiny autumn day. Sunny enough to brighten up the mood but chilly enough to wear my new crochet scarf for the first time. Along with my hand warmers. So nice that I’m off to kick and shuffle through damp leaves in the park.
3….I didn’t have an epic fail with making posh porridge in my new slow cooker. No, because I am mathematically challenged I interpreted the recipe wrongly. Now I know, I can do it again properly and have nice yummy porridge ready and waiting for me in the morning.

Hi Penny! What a lovely photos! Higgins makes me always cheerful!
Your linky party is a great idea! We do need to think something cheerful when listening all the day – every day only for economic crise and more taxes and difficulties etc.
    Have a lovely week!
    xxx Teje

That bit about music running through the head … for me it’s gotten much worse now that I’m in my late 40s and the hormone levels are beginning to fluctuate. (At least I think that’s the reason.)

Sometimes a tune or a bit of a tune stays stuck in my head for days, like a broken record. Most annoying!

I really like your idea of “Reasons to be Cheerful”. It parallels something I’ve been doing for a while now on my bicycle rides (which I explain in another very wordy comment on another of your posts). What a good way to lift the spirits and remind us to look for bits of beauty all around us.
